In Montreal, at the confluence of the neighborhoods Griffintown and Little Burgundy, an interdisciplinary arts centre aims to resuscitate a vanishing industrial typology whose final incarnations served the endeavors of artistic or (generally) non-industrial tenants. A recent housing swell has eradicated most of these low-rent, large-area warehouses, with one remarkable exception: the Arsenal Gallery. This new and influential space transformed a century-old ship building plant into a popular contemporary art gallery.
